The “Seneca” series is a turned copper projectile designed with the most demanding competitors in mind.  These projectiles are the epitome of performance with their high BC, lower weight and sleek profiles.  The bullet designs are all measured via acoustic chronograph and/or Doppler radar for the utmost in confidence of the equipment.  The bullets are designed to be used in a broad range of competition calibers and magazines.  As compared to other monolithics or hybrid construction projectiles these exhibit better form factors, better repeatability, lower weight and higher BC’s.  Not only are the trajectories better with these projectiles but the overall performance aids the competitor in “shootability” with reduced recoil for the performance gained.

This bullet family has multiple patents awarded for the design.  Due to some of the patented features the designs are not only extremely efficient in flight but also very easy to load with conventional powders and standard chamber dimensions.  The bullets are designed with bore rider geometry for use of normal throat geometry.

Each bullet is individually turned on high precision lathes and measured to ensure the utmost in consistency.  These projectiles are not bulk washed/tumbled or other bulk-method processed to ensure that the sleek profiles are not damaged after machining is completed.

For example, using the 6.5mm 124gr Seneca and a conventional 130gr jacketed bullet design in comparison the Seneca performance allows a 6.5 Creedmoor shooter compete head to head with 6.5 PRC and other 6.5mm short magnum cases. THis is a huge advantage in the overall cost of ammunition, cost of an additional caliber to reload, cost of a new barrel and bolt or a whole rifle, and increased barrel life of a 6.5 Creed vs. 6.5 PRC

Length: 1.37″

Optimal Freebore: 0.120″-0.200″

G1 BC average = 0.593*

G7 BC average = 0.294*

*The average BC was measured using 8tw 5R rifled barrels and being shot at approximately 3060fps.  Different rifling geometry and muzzle velocity will affect the BC in a nominal manner.

TNF stands for Trajectory Normalizing Factor.  It is a simplification used to accurately estimate the potential of firearms trajectories across calibers and weight ranges without the complexity of running a ballistic calculator.

TNF = Muzzle Velocity * Ballistic Coefficient

See the Patriot Valley Arms article on TNF.

Seneca G7 BC = 0.294

130gr Jacketed bullet G7 BC = 0.280

For a 3,200fps Seneca load we have a TNF value of 0.294*3100=912

To equate that TNF value with the 130gr bullet it would need to be traveling at least 3,250 fps!

Test packages of 100ct bullets are available however the best pricing of course comes with larger volumes.  Volumes of 500pcs or more will be filled in bulk packages not in 100ct bags.

6.5mm 124grgr Seneca requires a 1:8tw barrel, it will likely not be stable from slower twist rates.  We cannot accept returns of projectiles due to liability reasons.

Starting load information should be based on conventional 120-123grain projectile information in published reloading manuals and loaded to book length.  The bullets have shown good repeatability across a broad seating depth range.  We suggest loading the bullets 0.050-0.020″ off the lands and starting load development in that area.

Description

Monolithic Bullets aka “Solids”

PVA’s founder, Josh Kunz, has been involved in the technical minutiae of rifle bullet design for almost 2 decades.  Leveraging his background in computational modeling and aerospace engineering his expertise is hard won knowledge that has resulted in the sleekest, most repeatable and accurate designs in the world.

The Warner Flatlines are a perfect example of this expertise.  The ELR designs produced by Warners have won numerous ELR and King of 2 Mile type events and set several ELR World Records in the process.

Now the Seneca and Cayuga series bullets are being made under Josh’s direct supervision on dedicated equipment.  The designs have expanded from just the bleeding-edge match bullets to encompass hunting designs as well as a series of more forgiving match bullets.

The Cayuga Copper hunting bullets and the Seneca Solid match bullets are designed to be forgiving for many different chambers and have opened the door to factory ammunition options.

The recommended velocity range for hunting projectiles is 1600+ fps at impact.  They are designed to work especially well in big animals with heavy bone structure.  The lead free benefits are substantial especially for hunters in states or countries that mandate lead free ammunition be used for game animals.

The projectiles are sleek, easy to load and require very little maintenance to keep them shooting very well.

Load Development:

These bullets are typically forgiving of barrels that have been shooting different ammunition.  However, for the sake of consistency and ease of loading to start we recommend that shooters clean the barrel moderately of prior fouling before starting load development.

The patented pilot band on the front of the bearing surface provides an alignment feature for the bullet in the rifle bore.  It is helpful in getting these bullets to shoot a broad range of seating depths.

We suggest starting the bullets at 2 different load lengths.  Loaders should use a seating depth method to find the cartridge overall length (COAL) to determine where the bullets touch the lands at the pilot band.  There are several methods to do this however with the geometry of the pilot band we need to be careful to gently feel for the band location.  The pilot band is small and provides very little bore feedback.  It’s not uncommon for shooters acclimated to regular jacketed bullets to shove the bullet through the pilot band entirely and end up with a falsely long load length.

We recommend using COAL for loading instead of base to ogive method with a comparator for two reasons.  The bullets are machined individually and are far more repeatable in OAL and shape than any jacketed bullet.  They are also hybrid bore rider designs which do not work with traditional ring-type ogive comparators.

For starting loads we suggest that folks use similar weighted projectile data from loading manuals and use the COAL method.  These bullets will be longer than similar weight bullets and similarly load longer OAL.  Using starting data from load manuals with longer COAL and the lower bore friction behavior of these solids will provide safe beginning loads for shooters to begin tuning their loads.
