Factory-loaded Precision Hunter Rifle Ammunition from Hornady uses ELD-X™ bullets to maintain highest-in-class ballistic coefficient and devastation at any practical hunting range. Aerodynamic heating on shots beyond about 400 yds. causes conventional-tip materials to melt and deform. Hornady combats this with the patent-pending Heat Shield™ tip which allows the ELD-X bullet to retain its shape and maintain a high ballistic coefficient over its entire trajectory. At any distance inside 400 yds., the thin nose section peels back and sheds material until it reaches the thick shank of the bullet jacket where the Interlock® ring keeps the core and jacket together. The remaining heavy shank drives forward and expands for lethal results. At low velocity, 400+ yds. impact, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the carefully designed nose cavity to begin the expansion process, producing a large mushroom and high weight retention, ensuring deep penetration and large wound cavities. Clean-burning propellants are loaded to uniform capacity for consistent shot-to-shot results regardless of temperature. Cartridge cases are chosen for strength, consistent capacity and minimal runout.
